Energy poverty in Sri Lanka

Understanding energy poverty is fundamental to any efforts alleviate it. This paper, using the latest (2016) Sri Lankan Household Income and Expenditure survey data, examines incidence, intensity, inequality, determinants of in Lanka, by constructing Multidimensional Energy Poverty Index (MEPI). The MEPI calculated a set seven key indicators representing multiple dimensions assigning weights Principal Component Analysis (PCA). households, on average, are experiencing moderate level (with 0.431) where lack access modern cooking fuel largest contributor poverty.
